Carlos Art Department

Hola, how are you?

I’m a Graphic Designer (1AR).

Before joining the DGC, I have been an Integrated Art Director in Advertising for over 20 years, working in different roles from Copywriter to Art Director, Graphic Designer, and Broadcast Producer.

My past film experience has included working as an Art Director, Assistant Director, Executive Producer, Cameraman, Line Producer and yes, even as an actor (but that won't happen again) in short films, commercials and branded content pieces.

I love new challenges, learning and working in a collaborative and creative environment. I will happily work dailies or help for a couple of weeks.

A few apps I use: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, MS Office, SketchUp Pro (beginner :)

I’m fluent in English and Spanish, my mother language.

My long-term goals are growing in the Art Department, writing, and perhaps even directing and producing (as I said, I like big challenges).

I look forward to working with you and to adding new projects to the top of this list.

Cheers.

Various Shows from 2019 to 2021

An update finally.

It hasn't been easy, with life, a lot of work, covid, etc your own portfolio is the thing that you procrastinate endlessly.

Also, is not easy to find designs that are up to your own standards since today's production schedules favour the use of stock imagery, vectors and not original designs (yes, I tend to design everything from scratch when it's possible. I'm a graphic designer and i love to design).

In some cases, they are designs I like, that were challenging, cool or simply can show you what I can do (like picture cars, simple screens, period pieces - yes, the 80s is period now, etc).

Kims Convenience 3

Great experience, great work, great people and a great show.

I designed a lot of props, labels and whatnot; a few other graphics like signage, posters, paperwork, etc. and did a few runs. Some of my personal photographs were used in several sets (http://carlosvisualartist.blogspot.com).

I even made friends.

By the end of the show I knew WestEnd Offset phone number by heart.

Untitled Pippa Bianco Project

I enjoyed working as a Graphic Designer in this low budget High School drama.

Our very small Art Department did a lot of work helping tell the story in a compelling, personal way.

Sometimes it was just about making the location to work unnoticed, design the everyday products,
but other times it was about helping a space create the right mood.

Following you'll find a selection of my best designs for High School classrooms, hallways, offices,
the cafetería, the hero house, etc.

Minimal Cafetería Decor for a very simple but huge space that needed a bit of colour.

This is the best of the house INT decoration, teenager's posters and collages,
take out menus and my own daughter's art.

Fahrenheit 451

I was very fortunate working on this project since it's one of my all-time favourites.

I enjoyed greatly designing and building hundreds of books (what a dream!),
working with everyone in the Art Department, directly or indirectly, and other Depts.

What a great first experience in town and the DGC. Now I think it was too short.
